We bought Il Bardine as a ruin in 2007. We fell in love with it and the huge potential it holds. It took 18 months to negotiate and buy it from the 14 different owners who had inherited different parts over the generations.
We've been working on it in our spare time and with local builders as funds allow. The local community are wonderful and have given us so much help, support and encouragement.
We wanted to retain the character and feeling of the place, keeping as much of the original features and style as we could. We have done so much and so much less than we would have liked, but without us the building would have fallen into disrepair and large parts would have fallen down.
We are an English family with four boys who were teenagers when we started and now have families of their own. We love the place dearly but I am now retired and my energy is on the wane. It is time to hand the baton on to someone who will take this amazing place to the next stage of its life.
