We call it indoor camping. Think Glamping rather than polished. Real charater, great views, river swimming, great walks, great drives, real rural Italy. Genuinely old rather than done up and destroyed.

We love to share Il Bardine although we mostly rent to friends of friends because it is old and delicate and facilities are not appropriate for normal commercial rental. What we charge reflects this but we do need people who stay to be sensitive to the community and the building and mindful of their own safety.

Plenty to see and do. Close to the coast and with good connections to classic Tuscany, the Cinqueterra and beyond. There's a great train ride through the Garfiniana to Lucca which was a favourite of the travel writer Eric Newby. Tucked away in genuinely rural Italy Il Bardine lets you touch the place and the culture.
